Last Thursday, a number of EU Parliamentarians together with 50 people gathered in the Brussels parliamentary building for a briefing on the outcome of the Israeli elections by renowned Jerusalem Post journalist, Gil Hoffman. The event, hosted by the Israel Allies Foundation’s European office based in Brussels, was also well attended by parliamentary staff, a number of distinguished guests, and Israel’s Ambassador to the EU, Amb. David Saranga. MEP Bastiaan Belder, member of the EU-Israel Allies Caucus, chaired the session.

The European Union Israel Allies Caucus strongly condemned the outright antisemitic statements of Hungarian MP Márton Gyöngyösi, who called for “making a list of Jews in the Hungarian Parliament and Government, because they certainly pose a threat to Hungary’s national security” in a press release on 05-12-2012. They furthermore recommended to follow the example of Germany and Austria, which have both banned the historical nazi parties and every successor party and therefore Hungary should consider a ban of the far-right party that Gyöngyösi belongs to, called Jobbik.
