Jerusalem Day Prayer Breakfast on Capitol Hill
June 6, 2012 - From Capitol Hill the International Israel Allies Caucus Foundation together with members of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus celebrated the reunification of Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty. The second annual Jerusalem Day Prayer Breakfast hosted Jewish and Christian leaders from across the country, addressing the importance of Jerusalem as the eternal, undivided capital of the Jewish people.
CBN News provided coverage of the event.
Members of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus and co-chairs Rep. Trent Franks (AZ-02) and Rep. Doug Lamborn (CO-05) spoke together with Rep. Michelle Bachman, Rep. Louie Gohmert, Rep. Allen West, Rep. Joe Walsh, Rep. Steve Chabot, Rep. Randy Hultgren, and Rep. John Flemming along with his wife Cindy Flemming.
“Jerusalem is the rightful capital of the Jewish people. It should stay that way and it should always be unified under one simple flag - that star of David, because it is David’s city,” Rep. Allen West stated.
At this second annual Capitol Hill event commemorating Jerusalem Day, the members declared their support for a united Jerusalem and the legislation that is currently in the House and Senate to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The U.S. Congress has traditionally been very supportive of Israel's self declared capital, yet successive U.S. Administrations since President Clinton have refused to recognize the capital city.
Following last year's Jerusalem Day Prayer Breakfast, the IIACF launched their Recognize Jerusalem campaign in the U.S. to encourage faith based advocacy for a united Jerusalem. The campaign is part of a worldwide endeavor to encourage introduction of similar legislation through Israel Allies Caucuses in parliaments in 20 different countries.
